Introduced in 1969, the Seal 22 was designed by Angus Primrose for John Baker Ltd., remaining in production until 1980. These boats are relatively fast for their size and easy to handle. The lift keel is an iron casting with a widened base to keep the center of gravity low, partially retracting to reduce draught. Hermione requires some general maintenance on deck but is very well presented below and is a great boat for sailing. It is an excellent package for exploring the rivers of the East Coast.
Viewing by appointment at our Suffolk Office (IP10 0LN).
Offering up to four berths in an open plan cabin with sitting headroom. The marine toilet is located in the forward cabin, along with a chain locker and stowage lockers. The galley is to starboard at the forward end of the saloon, equipped with a gimballed single burner hob and a moulded sink. There are two settee berths in the saloon with PVC upholstery. A central drop leaf saloon table features a keel lifting mechanism at the aft end. Two quarter berths are located aft on each side. The cabin has plenty of lockers throughout. The companionway can be opened up to the full width of the coachroof, providing a spacious feel below. The interior is in good condition.
Located on a hinging transom bracket is a Tohatsu 8 hp, long shaft outboard motor, providing a cruising speed of approximately 5.7 knots.
Single 12V battery (2019) charging via engine and solar panel.
The boat features a fractional rigged sloop with a tabernacle mounted. It has an anodised aluminium mast and boom, stainless steel standing rigging, and Terylene running rigging. The mainsail has slab reefing, and there is a headsail furling system. It includes 2 x bottom action sheet winches.
Built in approximately 1973 by John Baker, the boat features a white GRP hull with a wooden rubbing strake. The light blue GRP decks have non-slip surfaces and wood grab rails. It has a cast iron lifting keel and a transom hung rudder with a lifting blade. The self-draining cockpit design includes a unique split-function 'convertible' cabin structure, with no fixed aft cabin bulkhead, allowing this area to be opened out and used as a deep, secure, and sheltered lower cockpit area for passengers when day sailing. It can be covered by ply boards and canvas under a sprayhood in bad weather or to extend the cabin area when cruising.
