Southerly Gem is the first of the Southerly 115 Series 4, benefiting from the class's ongoing development since the initial Southerly 115 was built in 1983. This model features a large center cockpit that enhances both comfort and safety for the crew. The well-proven Rob Humphreys designed swing keel and twin rudders on the Series 4 improve the performance of the 115, allowing it to sail in less than three feet of water. Southerly Gem has been under current ownership for 12 years and has proven to be a comfortable cruiser that can be easily handled by two people.

Accommodation

The accommodation offers 6 berths in two cabins. In the fore cabin, there is a V berth at different heights with an opening hatch to the foredeck and a hanging locker opposite. In the saloon, there is a dinette to port with a settee berth opposite, and a fixed table with drop leaves. The chart table is to starboard with the galley opposite, featuring:

• Plastimo Neptune 2000 two burner gimballed gas cooker with grill and oven
• Isotherm top loading refrigerator
• Panasonic microwave
• Single stainless steel sink
• Hot and cold pressurized water system

There is a separate heads compartment with a marine toilet, shower, and washbasin, along with a 35 litre holding tank. The aft cabin features an enlarged double berth with a settee to port and hanging lockers. Additional features include:

• Eberspacher diesel fired hot air central heating
• Fitted and edged carpets
• Curtains to windows and deck hatches

Mechanical Systems

2003 Yanmar 3JH3E, three cylinder, 40hp diesel engine connected to stainless steel shaft drive. It has a three-bladed folding propeller and is fresh water cooled via a heat exchanger. The engine is controlled by single lever Morse controls.

Vetus bow thruster (serviced 2024)

Electrical Systems

Two 12v domestic batteries plus a single 12v engine crank battery. Batteries are charged from the engine alternator. There is a 240v shore power system with a Mastervolt battery charger, immersion heater, and ring main. Interior lighting is also included.

Sails and Spars

Masthead rigged sloop with a silver anodised aluminium double spreader, deck stepped mast and boom by Selden Spars, 2003. The standing rigging is stainless steel, 2003, and the running rigging is Terylene, 2003. Features include:

Construction

Built in 2003 by Northshore Yachts. Hull number 001 of the Southerly 115 Series 4. The boat features a white GRP hull and superstructure with teak laid side decks. It has wheel steering to twin spade rudders and a swing keel with a minimum draft of 0.71m and a maximum draft of 2.48m. The self-draining center cockpit has teak laid cockpit seats and a sugar scoop transom. Antifouled early 2024.
