AS-IS

On the market for the first time in over a decade! “Zia” is a truly special boat. During the era they were built, the Switch 51 was truly the Cadillac of seas. If you had to have the best of the best for a performance cruiser…this was it!

A VPLP design in the same vein as the “classic era” of Lagoon, the Switch 51 is a French built and designed catamaran for speed, elegance and simplicity. During the early years at Sud Composites, The Multihull Company were the North American distributors and we sold several of these fine cats to our customers, all of whom loved the boats and sailed great distances in them safely and swiftly. One of our customers raced his Switch 51 and took winning honors in every race he entered. But for all of that, the Switch is a very comfortable live-aboard voyager. Her two aft master cabins are very spacious and her forward port V-berth is double bed size. She was ahead of her time in design and build.

Owners have reported averaging speeds up to 12 knots on passage. The owner has owned many different catamarans over the course of his sailing career, but he reports that none of them have been able to point as well as Zia has. With her foam core and vinylester construction she avoids much of the weight issues that plagued earlier cats of this era, and the owners have never reported having to repair a single blister below her waterline. She also features the rare single helm layout, whereas most 51's were built with outboard helms.

Survey and haulout facilities are indeed available locally.

A totally new house battery bank and suite of electronics inside and out will have to be added. Sails are serviceable for the time but if new sails were added performance could really be improved by an order of magnitude. Side windows are also in need of rebedding.

Once the necessary updates are added, Zia will once again be a turn key true bluewater cruiser.
