Trader Motor Yachts under Tarquin Boat Company was a British brand of luxury cruising motor yachts established in 1979.
Trader is well-known for its trawler yachts, motor yachts, cruising yachts, and flybridge motor yachts, which are built with semi-displacement hulls. The yachts proved hugely popular from the beginning thanks to their deeper draft and unusually wide beam, which allowed for spacious interiors and plenty of deck space. Robustness and seaworthiness, as well as a classic and elegant styling, were also attributes that added to their popularity.
Trader yachts built a broad range of motor yachts in its time, including the popular Spirit, Signature, Sunliner, and Sundeck ranges. Models ranged from around 33 feet in length to over 70 feet. The boats were built in Taiwan before being finished and customized in the UK for delivery to new owners.
Trader Motor Yachts produced many models ranging from weekend cruisers to superyachts. The Trader 75 Superyacht was one of the brand’s largest, launched in 2009 to much fanfare. With a length of 77 feet, a wide beam of 19 feet, and a draft of over 6 feet, it held a CE certification class (A) capable of navigating oceans. It is comprised of four guest cabins able to accommodate eight guests as well as two crew members. With a cruising speed of 11 knots and features including a flybridge with full service al fresco galley, and a full beam saloon, galley, and dining area, it is a classic superyacht.
Apart from the Superyacht series, there were two other main ranges in the Trader family; the Signature range and Sunliner range. Each one offered a different hull type and was designed for different needs and unique activities. The Signature range was renowned for its comfort and long-range capabilities long before trawler yachts and expedition yachts soared to popularity. These flybridge models had an aft-cabin layout, covered deck area, and luxurious finish. The Signature 535 and Signature 575 were two of its best-selling models.
The Sunliner range was built until the brand ceased production. Elegant classic styling and wood interiors were its main features, as well as features including bow and stern thrusters, a huge galley, water maker, air conditioning, and twin Caterpillar engines.
The Trader 44, Trader 54, and Trader 65 were also top-selling models for the brand throughout the late 1980s and 1990s and remain sought after on the used market thanks to their durability, strong build, and high specifications.
