HUGE PRICE REDUCTION!
Raumati is the last English built, teak on oak Vertue by the famous yard of E. F. Elkins in Christchurch. She is very original with spruce spars, an impeccable specification and her own clinker pram dinghy from 1962. She has bronze floors and keel bolts and a brand new Beta 14 diesel engine. With her Baby Blake heads and Taylor paraffin gimballed stove she is a real classic and comes with a huge inventory of sails and equipment.
Raumati was built to Elkins' finest specification with a teak planked bottom and mahogany topsides for lightness, oak frames and centreline stucture, oak and bronze floors, oak deck beams and hanging knees. All the deck work is teak, including the cockpit, and the deck canvas was replaced new in 2010. She has bronze keel bolts supporting her lead keel.
The boat is lying in her own heavy duty Dancover pvc overall tent near the River Dart, in South Devon. She is not yet back in commission since the new engine was fitted, which still needs its electrics and pipework fitting. The new Beta 14 diesel engine was expertly installed on new oak and galv. steel beds, and new engine controls are ready to be fitted.
The original spruce mast and boom are stored under cover alongside the boat, complete with standing rigging. The running rigging, sails and a huge amount of gear included in the sale is stored elsewhere. This includes echo sounder, vhf, electrical equipment, warps, fenders, ground tackle, berth cushions, original Giles designed teak table, galley equipment, clinker dinghy, oars etc etc.
Her bottom has been carefully scraped and sanded back to bare wood and soaked in cuprinol and linseed oil, so needs priming and antifouling. The topsides also need some patch undercoating and enamel topcoat in places, whilst the brightwork on deck needs some extra coats of varnish in places.
Raumati's Beken photos were used on the cover of the brochure used to market the later Cheoy Lee Vertues that were imported into the UK during the mid-1960's. She represents the ultimate development of this classic Giles design, before it's modification into the Mark II style. She was built of the finest materials available by arguably the best Vertue-building yard in the UK. As such she is perhaps the quintessential Vertue, a classic of classics.
