The Yachting World Seahorse, designed by E.G Van De Stadt in 1959, was created as part of a design competition sponsored by Yacht World Magazine for a ‘build it yourself’ boat.

Van de Stadt, an accomplished yacht designer, produced the Seahorse as design number 67 in his extensive portfolio of 150 designs.

Rocinante was constructed by her first owner, Tony Storer, in 1974 to a very high standard suitable for both racing and cruising. She is fitted with bunks to accommodate 5 people, along with a small heads and galley, making her an ideal pocket cruiser/racer.

Significant upgrades and refit work have been completed during the last 2 experienced ownerships, including the installation of both Bermudan and gaff rigs. Switching to gaff rig is straightforward, utilizing the same mast in the same position, adjusting backstays, and attaching the gaff yard. With her gaff rig, she has gained a reputation as a bandit racer on the circuit.

Included with the boat is a lot of equipment and a 4 wheel road trailer.

Construction Hull

Hard chine plywood hull, epoxy glass cloth sheathed externally for a strong and low maintenance structure.

Cast iron ballast keel fastened with stainless steel bolts.

Decks and Cockpit

Marine plywood decks, sheathed externally and painted with non-slip finish.

Self-draining cockpit made from sheathed marine plywood with varnished cockpit coamings.

Superstructure

Coachroof with a sheathed plywood coachroof deck on mahogany deck beams. Portlights are installed in the coamings.

Rig

One mast that can be converted from Bermudan to gaff depending on the regatta. The mast position and standing rigging remain unchanged, except for the backstay which is removed and replaced with runners.

Sailspar aluminium mast and boom.

Stainless steel standing rigging, new in 2023.

Carbon fibre gaff yard.

General Description

The interior is designed for racing, featuring a simple and functional layout. Steps lead down from the companionway with a single settee berth on either side.

The galley is located midships to starboard.

Port side entrance leads into the forepeak with a single berth to port.
