DESCRIPTION

Remarks :
The Achilles 24 was designed in 1968 by Oliver Lee and were built by Butler Mouldings of Gowerton, near Swansea in Wales. As was the case with many British yacht builders at the time, boats were sold both as completed boats and as kits for home completion.
Two versions were built, the fin-keel and the triple keel version, with six inches shallower draught but slightly higher ballast weight. The fin-keel versions are definitely faster.

As would be expected in a yacht derived from a racing keelboat, and with a better than 50% ballast ratio, performance is good. They are popular club racers, and in their early days achieved a remarkable record in long-distance sailing, including one being the smallest boat to complete the 1976 OSTAR singlehanded transatlantic race, fitted out from a kit in preparation for the race and sailed by Rodney Kendall.
This particular example is a re-possession by Quay Marinas, the age is unknown as well as engine and sail condition hence the very low price. Some attention and upgrades are needed to the vessel but for anyone willing to get there hands dirty they have a wonderful and well recognised British sailing vessel.
Accommodation :
The Achilles 24 has simple accommodation for two or at a push four people. The saloon consists of two settee berths and a small gimble cooker to starboard and a basin to port. The forecabin is a V berth which will sleep two, there is also the capabilities for a chemical toilet to be located under the V berth. See photos for a better insight into the accommodation layout.
