She was first converted in before being bought by Square Sail in . She had a lot of work done at that time and was converted to her current configuration to be used in film work. She has appeared in many feature films and television dramas, giving her a fine reputation as an adaptable and effective filming platform. Filming she has worked on recently includes In the Heart of the Sea, Poldark, Taboo and Frontier.

Because Phoenix has been a commercial boat for many years, she has been subject to regular and well-documented refit work with large amounts of replacement planking, re-fastening and other work as required, all of which have been documented and are available for inspection.

She is licensed under the MCA Category for miles from a safe haven for persons. The commercial licence was renewed in .

She is an unusual vessel, the likes of which rarely come on the market. Her rig is not just for show; she is a very capable sea-going sailing boat that does not need a huge crew to handle her and could be sailed anywhere in the world for new owners or for future film work if desired. Her appearance can be easily altered to adapt to her many different roles, something which has been proven many times before.
