Pommery was built in the late 1960’s by Simms of Eel Pie Island. She was built specifically to be an Umpire Boat for Rowing Regattas and apart from a short period working as a tripping boat has mainly always been used for this purpose.
She has had 3 engines over the years and her recent re-engine is a Petrol Mercruiser 3.0 litre 145hp straight 4
This boat has been in the care of Chas Newens Marine Co for some 30 years and we have used her for day trips along the River Thames especially at Henley Royal Regatta and the Annual Oxford vs Cambridge Boat Race. Pommery is still in use at Henley Royal Regatta transporting guests to and from Temple Island to watch the racing and whilst no longer umpiring at the Oxford vs Cambridge Boat Race, she can still be seen on the Thames in good working order, and is currently used annually by the Henley Women's Regatta and Reading Town Regatta as an umpire boat and for carrying supporters.
The owners are sad to see her go but the new rules dictate that only a private owner can use her anywhere on the Thames, thus she cannot stay in their fleet, however charter opportunities are available allowing the cost of ownership to have tremendous benefits on Non tidal waterways.
We are looking forward to helping a new owner take control of this very beautiful launch
