Wooden Ships Comments on this Abeking & Rasmussen Bermudan Yawl

40’ Abeking & Rasmussen Bermudan yawl built by A&R in 1919 to a design by Henry Rasmussen.

A beautiful yacht from the early years of the famous German yard, built just 7 years after the yard was founded and probably one of the first boats built after the end of WWI.

Owned for more than 60 years by a syndicate group which has enabled the boat to be sailed regularly and maintained by an enthusiastic group of owners and friends.

This is a very elegant pedigree yacht that could continue to be sailed as she has been for the last 60 years, but would also make a very good basis for a major refit, putting her back to the original flush deck arrangement with gaff yawl rig.

In 2006 she had a major professional refit at Gweek Quay Boatyard, Cornwall where nearly 50% of the planking was replaced using pitch pine. The majority of the original iron frames were renewed with steel angle iron and new galvanised bolts. The keel was removed and rebedded with new wrought iron bolts.

New Beta 30hp engine in 2011 and new mizzen mast in 2020.
