DESCRIPTION

Elan 340 – 2008 - £60,000

This is a really nice example of this very popular 'Cruiser Racer' from the pen of world renowned designer Rob Humphrey, and built to a high standard by Elan Yachts of Slovenia.

This is a yacht which can perform in a competitive environment if required, yet is fitted out to a high standard offering comfortable cruising attributes as well. Arguably one of the best all round yachts of this size available on the market today - and we don't say that lightly!

This is a keel-stepped mast boat that is dry and fresh below, with nothing but dust in her bilge. It is clear that she has always been well-kept and the soft furnishings and condition of the internal woodwork reflect the fact.

After nearly 13 years of enjoyable ownership of this Elan 340, the current recently retired joint owners are planning some ambitious longer distance sailing for which they have their eye on a larger, equally performance-orientated cruiser.

Accommodation

The Elan 340’s interior has a more modern style than that of its 333 predecessor, with light wood veneers used throughout, beige internal GRP roof liner with inset wood strips and a dark laminate cabin sole. Blue fabric upholstery in good condition throughout.

The Elan 340 offers up to six berths in two separate cabins, plus the use of the saloon, where the settee berths are of simple straight design with good width and very good length.

A dedicated and generously-sized forward-facing chart table is located to starboard of the companionway down from the cockpit, with a well sized heads compartment aft of this.

The galley is of L-shaped layout and located to port of the area at the foot of the companionway.

An Autotherm Air 4D (by Planar) diesel-fired, warm air heating system is fitted with outlets throughout the accommodation (newly fitted in April 2024). A Gear4 iPod dock/DAB radio is fitted in a locker above the chart table providing entertainment facilities.

Side windows are fitted with pleated ‘OceanAir’ type blinds, and all overhead hatches have insect screens (stowed loosely in the aft cabin).

Forward Cabin: Providing a double Vee berth with surprisingly good length with an in-filling cushion, but there is still open floor space beneath and behind the berth when fully made up. Two half-height closed lockers face each other across the centreline either side of the access door; hanging in the port side and shelved to starboard. Open shelving along each side of the berth. Overhead deck hatch with roller blind. 240v Euro 2 pin socket

Main Saloon: C-shaped seating is fitted to the port side of the main cabin, with a straight settee berth to starboard, facing each other over a well-proportioned leafed table, with drinks stowage within. The two roto-moulded plastic water tanks are fitted amidships beneath the saloon seating but generous lockers are to be found under the forward ends. These combine with behind seat back lockers and open shelves to each side to offer significant stowage. A centreline hatch over the table, plus opening portlights above galley ensure good light values and cross-ventilation in harbour.

Nav area: A generously sized, forward-facing chart table with internal chart stowage and navigators seat is located aft to starboard. Adjacent to the main 12 V DC electrical distribution panel and storage lockers over. 240v Euro 2 pin outlet socket.

Galley: Consciously located to port side, so that the yacht may be hove to on starboard tack while making a hot brew, the galley is of efficient design and bigger than on some 34 and

35' alternatives. A top-opening cool box outboard of the stainless steel sinks is refrigerated by an efficient Isotherm ASU unit, two-burner gas cooker with oven fitted (Note – the gas system has not been connected or used in the current ownership as they prefer a spirit stove instead. Consequently the gas system will need re-commissioning) Ample storage for crockery and staples in the large lockers beneath the side deck. 240v Euro 2 pin outlet socket.

Aft Cabin: Located to port side, abaft the galley, the aft cabin's berth is more generous than might be expected; extending around the engine space and beyond the centreline, while retaining a good length throughout. There is also a relatively generous floor area behind the closed door on which to stand and get dressed with the door closed, with a larger than average hanging locker outboard of this space. Opening portlight to cockpit well.

Heads Compartment: Located to starboard aft of the nav area, this is a light and welcoming compartment - even featuring 'his and her' hand basins one might think! In fact, one is intended as secure stowage for washbags etc. for practical use when underway. Mirror- fronted lockers above basin area. Monobloc faucet with pull-out shower attachment, shower sump drain pump. Jabsco manual sea toilet with holding tank.

Beyond the toilet, the drained hanging space for wet-weather gear is of good size.
