Owners Comments:-
"The Lady Amanda is being sold by my 90 year old dad after many exhilarating, varied and fun-packed years. If only those boards could talk!
He bought her in Gillingham in 1992 and averaged 900 nautical miles a year for many years venturing down the French coast to Brest several times and exploring bays, creeks and estuaries of the southern English coast. He and crew watched several Fastnet races including surviving the heavy weather of 2007 when 75% of boats retired. Lady Amada holds herself well be it flat calm or gale.
In 2000 dad moved her to north Wales which served as a fabulous base from which to explore the Irish coast and Scotland up to Aran and beyond. She’s navigated the tricky Bardsey sound and the Menai Straits several times. For a few years she served as a base for an English language business he set up where German students combined a sailing holiday with learning nautical and functional English. Fortunately “Man overboard!” never had to be put into practice!
As someone who worked in the East African colonial service, was one of the first pioneers of the computing industry and survived being a hostage in Iraq, the Lady Amanda has been the haven within which he has concocted many novels inspired by his life experiences. His love of her shines through many sections:"
“in the gentle breeze she glided up to Sarn Padrig at flat water. Puffy white clouds of summer bowled northwards as she passed through the narrow east passage with a yard or more under her keel and slipped elegantly round the corner of Shell Island…. Climbing the ebb-tide flow, don’t go rushing the beauty of the Artro. Take it spit by spit and count the clumps of yellow ragwort flowers of the saltings as you glide by…..”
