Swallow is one of only three remaining turtle deck slipper launches built in Maidenhead by John Andrews before the establishment of the Bourne End Andrews yard by a relative. This model differs from the standard 25ft launch with its barrelled forward deck, reminiscent of racing boats from that era. Designers were experimenting with shapes to achieve speed using rudimentary petrol engines. It is possible that Swallow predates 1932, but any records have been lost over time.
The Classic Boatworks company in Norfolk, known for pioneering electric propulsion under the name of the Steam and Electric Launch Company, refurbished and electrified Swallow for a previous owner. The current owners purchased the boat from HSC and reside in Shepperton, where the boat can be viewed on their private mooring.
Motor and Power SystemThe motor is an Italian Best 48 volt motor with a 2.5 kW output, providing ample speed and smooth operation. The boat is equipped with:
In addition to the folding pramhood, the boat includes:
This is a rare and comfortable slipper stern launch that offers seating for five and embodies 'dolce vita' chic.
The owners possess a recent survey, and both the BSS certificate and EA licence for the Thames are up to date.
