Swallow is one of I believe just three remaining turtle deck slipper launches built in Maidenhead by John Andrews before the famous Bourne End Andrews yard was set up by a relative. They differ from the standard 25ft launch in that they have a sort of barrelled forward deck reminiscent of the racing boats being built in different parts of the country and indeed the world, at that time. Designers were experimenting with shape and trying to achieve speed from rudimentary petrol engines. It is indeed possible that Swallow predates 1932 but any records have been lost in the mists of time.
The Classic Boatworks company in Norfolk, pioneers of the renaissance in electric propulsion under the name of the Steam and Electric Launch Company, refurbished and electrified Swallow for a previous owner and the current owners who purchased the boat from HSC and live in Shepperton where the boat can be viewed on their private mooring,
The motor is an Italian Best 48 volt motor with a 2.5 kw output giving the boat plenty of speed and very smooth running. There is an onboard charger and a set of 8 deep cycled six volt batteries giving the boat a full day of cruising.
In addition to the folding pramhood there is a summer cover and a winter cover, smart cushions for the aft bench and to match the cushions on the two unusual and very comfortable hard wood front seats, probably made by Brotherhood in solid mahogany.
This is a rare and comfortable slipper stern launch which offers seating for five and 'dolce vita' chic.
The owners have a recent survey and the BSS certificate and EA licence for the Thames are both up to date.
