DESCRIPTION

TASMAN was originally delivered to Seattle, WA, to a New Zealand client with over 50 years of cruising and sailing experience. His background included the ownership of a boat yard in New Zealand, where his team constructed an 86’ world cruising long-range vessel. After TASMAN changed ownership, she was kept in the northwest for a period of time by her second owners. TASMAN's current owners dedicated substantial funds to adding a Seakeeper system, extended freezer and refrigeration, a voltage and cycles converter, and additional systems and cabinetry changes from the original design. These owners have cruised TASMAN extensively, and even shipped the yacht to Europe and cruised there. The yacht spent the last year in Grenada, until her recent arrival in Fort Lauderdale - a 1,500 nautical mile voyage.

TASMAN is now on the market, after a complete service of the stabilizer system, and some work on the engines and generators. With her 2,000 gallon fuel capacity, TASMAN has a range of more than 2,000 miles at 9 knots and is an exceptional sea boat in any weather conditions!

Walkthrough

On entering the yacht from the extended swim platform, there is a staircase to starboard, a rear transom door that leads to the crew cabin and engine room, two opening ports, and on the port side above the swim platform, the Passarella is enclosed in that area. There is an aft windlass mounted above the swim platform. The teak-covered aft deck, which is under the flybridge boat deck, is spacious and has a built-in seating area and a teak table with leaves, which allows for dining. On each end of the built-in seating are two large cabinets for storage. There are two opening gates aft and two opening gates port and starboard, plus a built-in cabinet to port for storage with a built-in additional set of Glendinning electronic controls, an electronic tiller for steering and starboard bow and stern thruster controls.

Moving forward, either on the port side or starboard side, there are built-in wing doors, to prevent spray or wind, which lead to covered wide teak walkways, which extend all the way forward to the Portuguese bridge. There are also opening gate doors opposite the pilothouse doors, for easier access to higher docks. There is an opening gate door on the starboard side of the Portuguese bridge, which when opened, allows access to the foredeck. Foredeck features built-in seating and large storage compartments below the deck on each side of the maxwell windlass. The yacht has high bull-works on the side decks for safety and stainless rails allow easy movement and attachment of bumpers.

On entering the salon through two double rear opening doors, there is very large built-in sectional seating to port, with an end table and a teak high/low table. To starboard are two comfortable chairs with ottomans on either side of the entertainment center with a large flat-screen TV. Forward in the salon is a granite counter that could be used as a breakfast bar, with two stools to port. There are three large windows on either side, plus the air conditioning flows from overhead valances on both sides of the salon. The salon is currently carpeted, but there is a teak and holly floor below. TASMAN, like all of the Outer Reef Classic Series yachts, was custom built to the specific requirements of the first owner, and this 65’ Outer Reef was the only one built with a separate private staircase from the salon to the midships master.

Heading up two steps from the salon, is a teak-floored galley to port. The galley is open to the salon, and has very large U-shaped granite counters with abundant storage below and above, built in full oven, electric stove top, dishwasher, and microwave. A full-size side-by-side refrigerator/freezer is on the starboard side of the galley, along with a large pantry.

Moving forward from the galley to the pilothouse through an opening door (currently removed), which would allow complete separation between the pilothouse and the galley for night traveling. The pilothouse, with teak and holly sole, has L-shaped seating to starboard aft, with storage below and a large teak table for dining. For easy access, there are opening port and starboard doors to the side decks and a very large console area with electronics, plus a center Stidd helm chair with a chrome base. Like the salon and galley, there is very attractive overhead teak strapping in the headliner. A staircase on the starboard aft side of the pilothouse leads to the flybridge area, and the starboard forward side has a staircase leading to the two guest staterooms.

TASMAN’s two guest staterooms are accessed from a staircase from the pilothouse. At the bottom of the staircase are full-size stacking ASKO washer and dryer.

To port, the guest cabin has crossover berths and drawer storage below. It is directly across from a door that leads into a large head and shower, with a granite counter and sink, The head/shower is also accessed from the forward VIP cabin through a separate door. The VIP cabin has a centerline tapered queen berth with drawer storage below and hanging lockers on both sides. This entire area also has teak and holly floors.

The special layout of TASMAN, with a staircase from the main salon to the midships master, also creates access to the engine room through a forward watertight door. The engine room of this 650 series, with just under 6’ headroom, is additionally 30 inches longer in comparison to other 65’ Outer Reefs. The purpose of this larger engine room was to allow access to the stabilizers in the engine room, instead of the master, plus additional room for other systems.

The second and current owner of TASMAN made the investment to add two Seakeeper 9’s, which provide exceptional stability at an anchorage, with the Naiad stabilizers providing excellent stability underway. The 503hp C-9 semi-commercial D-rated engines provide the best fuel efficiency of any engine choice available for this series, and are coupled with Twin Disc transmissions. Other systems include a twin chilled water air conditioning system, isolation transformers, two Northern lights generators, an underwater side exhaust for quiet operation, inverter and battery chargers, emergency vent shut downs in case of a fire along with fire containment Fireboy system, built-in counters over the Seakeepers, the Naiad hydraulic reservoir, and AGM batteries fired below the black coin dot flooring.

Heading through the aft watertight door in the engine room, is a crew or forth cabin with upper and lower berths starboard, drawer and cabinetry storage, and to port is a granite-topped counter with sink and head. Both the head and the cabin are finished with the same teak interior as the rest of the yacht.

Aft of the crew head are several large areas of cabinet storage and additional storage aft, which includes the drum required for the Glendinning cable master, and room for the passarelle. There is exterior access to this crew area/4th cabin from a center watertight door on the transom.

Like all 65’ Outer Reefs, the flybridge and boat deck area of TASMAN are significantly larger than sister ships of similar profile. This is due to the semi-displacement design of the yacht, which makes it very wallsided and allows the flybridge deck to maintain the same beam as the lower deck, in conjunction with the flybridge helm area starting on top of the pilothouse, rather than back from it. There is a tremendous amount of storage under the flybridge cowling. The factory hardtop forward shields the lower helm and the significant seating (with storage below) port and starboard, as well as the built-in tables, from adverse weather. Visibility fore and aft is exceptional.

Moving down two steps, there is a cabinet and a very substantial stainless steel LP grill with side burners. Modifications were made in the original cabinet design to add a service counter and sink. Under the sink and also to the portside are very substantial freezer compartments that were built by the second owner at a cost of tens of thousands of dollars, to allow for extended passages before needing to additionally provision the yacht. The very large boat deck aft has a 15’ Caribe tender with a 90hp Yamaha, and a 1,500lb Brower davit.
