Owner's Comments

The Sailing Vessel Asterias was manufactured by the Shannon Boat Co. in 1979 and is the 42nd hull produced of the Shannon 38 model. The Shannon 38 holds the record among the Shannon models for having completed the most circumnavigations.

Hull 42 was originally built for Bob Frank (Robert K. Frank), a Pan American Airlines pilot living in Shelter Island, New York. Frank named the boat “Ocean Lady”. Dick and Alice Conway (Dallas) purchased Ocean Lady around 1995 and renamed her Sea Roo. The Conway's circumnavigated with her from 1996 until 2006.

Purchased from the Conway’s in 2010, she was renamed Asterias. She immediately underwent a complete refit, during which, with few exceptions, every system on the vessel was entirely replaced. The refit was completed in December of 2017.
