LUNA is a well-cared for and updated Tartan 3800. These boats are chock-a-block full of thoughtful details which make them easy to handle and a joy to sail, cruise and even race. For sale by only her second owner, LUNA has always been professionally maintained by two of the top yacht yards in Southern New England. LUNA is a darn good-looking boat, appealing to the eye from every angle, unlike many of the designs we see of late.
Her white gel coat topsides (in excellent condition) are complemented by teak toe rails and teak handrails on the cabin top, which along with navy blue cove and boot stripes and navy canvas, make for a traditional and sharp look.
The Tartan 3800 features a modern sugar scoop transom and “T” shaped cockpit which allows for a big wheel for enhanced feel and performance and the room to get around it. LUNA is set up for both short-handed sailing (lazy jacks for the mainsail; self-tailing primary and secondary winches within easy reach of the helm; furling lines led aft to the cockpit; autopilot) and buoy racing (with, for example, extra inboard genoa tracks, 48” wheel and carbon spinnaker pole).
Numerous upgrades and additions have been made by these owners over the past twenty years, details of which can be found in the listing. Reluctantly but seriously offered for sale, and ready for another twenty years of making memories. We invite your inquiry and inspection.
The 3800's well distributed 12'-5" beam grants spacious accommodations within and allows for 6'-5" of headroom at the centerline. Signature Tartan teak joinery is everywhere and makes for a warm and inviting interior.
Starting forward the layout features a private double Stateroom with cedar-lined hanging locker, six-drawer bureau, shelving outboard of the berth, a convenient washbasin and vanity and single settee to starboard. A large overhead hatch with two opening ports provides plenty of light and ventilation. Next aft and traditional in layout, the main cabin centers around a midship dropleaf table and both a U-shaped (to starboard) and conventional settee, which also serve as berths for three. Ample storage exists outboard of the seatbacks in various lockers, shelves and cubbies. Ventilation and light are provided by numerous opening ports and hatches.
The Navigation Station, aft to port and forward facing, is convenient to the companionway and cockpit and set up very nicely.
Across to port is the well-laid-out U-shaped Galley, while further aft to starboard is the generous Quarter Cabin featuring a large double berth (6'-6" in length) also with cedar-lined hanging locker, outboard shelving, opening ports and hatch. Overhead adjustable lamp and reading lights.
The head is located aft to port of the companionway and provides a separate shower stall and oversized wet locker. The manual marine toilet has a Y-valve, holding tank and macerator pump.
FORWARD CABIN
SALON
The salon layout is both practical and inviting and is complemented by many optional and custom teak features: bookshelves, magazine rack, speaker boxes, framed main cabin hatch, louvered locker doors; shelves with fiddles, gorgeous double leaf table with storage cubbies, drawers and fiddles. Lighting in various forms including: overhead (some teak framed) some regular round 12v; under cabinets outboard, stainless swivel and courtesy.
GALLEY
The well-equipped galley is comfortable to work in and favors ample stowage of provisions. The double sink is close to centerline for excellent drainage and the reefer is deep and spacious, with both top and frontal openings, custom lighting and removable teak shelving.
HEAD
In its own niche to port, the navigator has a generous chart table facing forward with both tube chart storage and a set of drawers. Accounting for electronic installation, entry to the main electrical systems and wiring is also accessed from the nav station.
The owner's personal effects are excluded from the sale.
