DESCRIPTION

Wavedancer of Clyde is a 1983 Westerly Sealord, sloop-rigged, with fully battened main, furling genoa, cruising chute, and snuffer. Designed by Ed Debois and built by Westerly yachts in Southampton in 1983 with a Lloyds certificate of construction, this yacht has accommodation for up to 10 people in 3 cabins (6 x single, and 2 x double berths). Perkins Perama diesel engine.

Wavedancer of Clyde is a 1983 Westerly Sealord, sloop-rigged, with fully battened main, furling genoa, cruising chute, and snuffer. Designed by Ed Debois and built by Westerly yachts in Southampton in 1983 with a Lloyds certificate of construction, this yacht has accommodation for up to 10 people in 3 cabins (6 x single, and 2 x double berths). Perkins Perama diesel engine. The Westerly Sealord was introduced to the yachting public in 1983 and was a Flagship yacht designed by the renowned and sadly missed Ed Dubois who had successfully designed a number of Westerly, Southerly, Centurions, and later Waquiez models. Billed as a genuine "blue water" cruiser, she proved popular with sailors throughout the world. This particular vessel is well equipped and has been well maintained since first purchased by the current owner in 2006. Based in Conwy Marina, North Wales, the owner has cruised from the Scillies to the Outer Hebrides for two to three months each year. She returned in August 2022 from a two-month cruise to Ireland, Scotland, and the Hebrides. The owner is now retiring and moving on to other adventures, hence the reason for the sale. Recently antifouled.

Heavy layup hull in GRP with cast iron fin keel and counter hung spade rudder.
Below water hull professionally stripped, HotVac treated, two layers of biaxial fibreglass matt applied, and re-epoxy coated in 2006
White gel coat topsides with smart navy blue and red cove line band.
Teak rubbing strake over the hull to deck joint. Treadmaster painted non-slip decks.
Stainless steel bow and stern rails joined by stanchions and uncoated guard wires.
Aluminium mooring cleats are located bow, stern, and midships with fairleads.
Stainless steel stemhead fitting with double roller.
Electric windlass with foot controls and remote cockpit controls
Centre cockpit with teak topped seating.
Cavernous sail locker to starboard.
Uncluttered cockpit with mainsheet track aft.

When introduced in 1983 the Sealord was the largest yacht in the Westerly range. Designed by Ed Dubois she was the queen of the Westerly fleet. With a production run between 1983 to 1987 only around 42 were built over the four-year period. Constructed in the normal robust Westerly fashion they quickly proved themselves as capable offshore, centre cockpit cruising yachts.

Owners Notes:

Following our purchase of 'Wavedancer of Clyde' in 2006 and under the direction of marine surveyor, Robert Scott, the following work was carried out by TLC Conwy and MES Engineering:-

- The hull gel coat was peeled back with and all through Hull fittings taken out, all areas of hull damage or delamination were ground out and repaired.
- The hull was then subject to Hotvac and West system for anti osmosis/prevention repair applied with two layers of biaxial fiberglass mat followed by gel coat all thru-hull fittings were replaced new.
- The engine was drawn back and a new stainless steel fuel tank was built in.
- New propeller shaft and Volvo seal. A new gearbox was fitted and the exhaust system was replaced.
- New anchor chain and Lofrans Windlass
- Standing rigging was replaced in its entirety and chainplates checked and a new roller reefing installed
- Running rigging fully replaced by TJ Rigging
- Gas system checked and tested
- A Side-Power bow thruster fitted and electrics checked/installed

Subsequently over the years...
- Portlights taken out new seals and " reglazed"
- Eberspacher heating installed
- Engine rebuilt 2017/18 including new heat exchanger and exhaust elbow
- Holding tank installed, gravity and pump out to aft heads
- Hull antifouled and professional rigging check each year
- New sprayhood and sail bag
- Internal decorations upgraded etc

Finally....

Hull antifouled, seacocks serviced, new Volvo seal fitted, and new aft engine mountings to include alignment check - May to August 2022.

Mechanical

Mechanical:
The engine space is located beneath the cockpit sole. A large access panel in the port bulkhead provides access from the passageway to the aft cabin. Additional access is provided from the starboard cockpit locker and beneath companionway steps.

Perkins Perama 100 Series 3-Cylinder 30hp diesel engine - Engine rebuilt in 2017/18 to include a new heat exchanger and elbow.
Conventional shaft to a fixed 3-bladed bronze propeller.
Gearbox and exhaust replaced in 2006

Accommodation

Below decks, the Sealord is a tribute to Westerly's fine craftsmanship. With a design complement of up to 10 people in three cabins (6 x singles and 2 x doubles), there is lots of usable space below with privacy in mind. The layout is ideal for two couples to sleep at opposite ends of the boat in self-contained accommodation but could also take a large party.

The high-quality materials and robust finish of the joinery work below decks have weathered well. Joinery and bulkheads are constructed of teak veneered plywood with solid teak trims finished in a satin varnish. Soles in the traditional teak and holly strip planking style.

Forecabin - Two single berths in the traditional V-berth layout. Infill section provided to create a double berth when required. Shelves above bunk outboard running the full length of the berths, bin storage lockers beneath bunks. Hanging locker aft of bunks to starboard. Light and ventilation are provided by opening the deck hatch.

Forward Heads - Dedicated compartment located on the port side with a locking door. The base of the compartment is finished in single piece GRP moulding incorporating a mounting plinth for the toilet, sole, countertop and moulded wash hand basin. Teak grating fitted to finish sole. Compartment appointed with manual marine LAVAC toilet, sink, water faucet and vanity unit.

Saloon - The main saloon occupies the full width of the yacht's 13' 2" beam. Centrally mounted, drop-leaf saloon table with bottle storage below the central part of the table. The starboard saloon berth converts to a double. The port side has two comfortable inward-facing lounge seating and the whole crew can fit around either side of the large saloon table. Wet locker opposite the forward heads compartment c/w heater.

Chart Table - Behind the saloon, the chart table is to port and takes a half Admiralty chart with room to spare, has drawers underneath and shelves and lockers above. There is plenty of room for all the navigator's manuals, instruments and equipment. Aft of the navigator's station on the port side there is a walk-through to the aft cabin.

Galley - To starboard, there is a huge U-shaped galley with twin sinks, work surfaces, a large refrigerated ice box and a cooker with an oven and grill. Underneath the sink and work surfaces, there are lockers with shelves large enough to take pots and pans and other bulky items. Behind the cooker, there is a sliding front food store in addition to fitted cup & plate racks. The galley is designed to be used efficiently both in the harbour and at sea.

Walkthrough below centre cockpit - In this walkthrough, there are two Pullman berths, one permanent and one above, with lee-cloths, Good comfortable sea berths. This also provides an excellent additional storage area and could be converted to a utility room / office.

Aft Cabin - The aft cabin is a master stateroom. It has two berths, one of which converts to a double for use in the harbour, its own heads with hot & cold water to the shower and basin. The double berth is to starboard and the seating area to the port can also be used as a single berth. There are two full-length hanging lockers, lockers above the berths and across the stern areas.

Aft Heads - Dedicated compartment located to starboard side with locking door.
