Sea Ray 340 Sundancer Review, an Iconic Cabin Cruiser

Sea Ray’s Sundancer series needs little introduction and has led the company line-up for decades. The Sea Ray 340 Sundancer, launched in 1999 and manufactured through 2007, positively dominated the express cruiser market at the time and has remained a firm favorite with owners ever since.

When first launched, the 340’s sleek styling, forward-leaning radar arch, and combination of luxury, speed, and craftmanship set it apart from its competitors. Not only was it fast—equipped with twin MerCruiser 8.1L 375hp V-drive inboards that saw it reach 28 knots or more—but it looked fast, too. Very quickly people realized that this wasn’t your average cabin cruiser, and its design has meant it's remained current ever since.

The 340 was conceived with boating families in mind, from the twin cabin layout, impressive interior space for a 34-foot boat, and the spacious galley. It is luxurious, with dark cherrywood and plush soft furnishings, and also sturdy, safe, and sporty. Whether it’s a weekend away or an extended cruise, it sleeps and dines up to 6 comfortably, and the 225-gallon fuel capacity allows for longer-range exploration than most of its competitors. Find a model with the sought-after Sportsman’s Package, and it turns this already versatile and capable cruiser into a mean fishing machine, too. Is there anything the 340 can’t do?

Sea Ray 340 Sundancer Key Features

The Sea Ray 340 Sundancer has an impressive list of features, each designed for overnight family cruising or longer vacations. We’re talking everything from an entertainment center to a dining table that converts into all-important sun-pads, and even a cockpit wet bar. But that merely scratches the surface. The roomy control station features an impressive instruments panel and dual bucket helm seats, while the integrated swim platform and swim ladder have been designed with family fun in mind—whether that’s swimming, towing, or snorkeling. There is a starboard U-shaped lounge area, too, good for dining for up to eight people.

Inside and you’ll find the 340’s generous and open-plan space is one of its best assets. The master cabin can be curtained off from the rest of the interior, and there is a head with 6-foot standing room, shower, and water-efficient toilet. The dining area comfortably seats six, and there is a large flat-screen TV as standard equipment. The galley has been well-considered with impressive use of space and high-quality appliances.

Sea Ray 340 Sundancer Performance

Owners love the handling and performance of the 340 Sundancer which, equipped with the twin MerCruiser 8.1L 375hp V-drive inboards, reaches speeds above 30 knots and cruises comfortably at 24 knots. Its substantial fuel tank offers a range of 150 nautical miles, and the 21-degree deadrise means a smooth, quiet ride even in bigger seas.
