DESCRIPTION

The Malo yard is highly regarded for producing exceptionally well-built yachts, each one finished to a high standard and normally with a semi-custom layout to suit their owner's requirements. The Malo 40 ZIGGY is no exception.

Commissioned by her current owner ZIGGY was delivered new to Poole Harbour in the summer of 2005 and sailed north to the Clyde and her home berth in Largs later that year. Regularly cruising the west coast of Scotland and the Outer Hebrides she has also taken trips south along the east and south coasts of Ireland and along the south coast of England. Below decks, she offers two comfortable double cabins with two further occasional berths in the saloon. Her inventory highlights include:

  • Original gelcoat finish to hull and deck mouldings
  • Lead ballast keel
  • Yanmar 4JH4E, 57hp marine diesel engine
  • Aquadrive thrust bearing.

OWNERS COMMENT:
We had sailed for several years prior to purchasing Ziggy, owning 2 yachts of smaller and lighter construction. On taking delivery of our new yacht at Poole in Dorset in June 2005, we set off in changeable weather conditions for the run home to Largs via Arklow and the east coast of Ireland and were immediately impressed by the Malo. The superior stability, safe deep cockpit and excellent weather protection of the large windscreen provided a comfort and feeling of safety. The generous accommodation also suited the pair of us.

Over the years we have explored many remote and safe anchorages in the west of Scotland, away from the bustle of harbours and marinas helped in no small way by the occasional use of the electric generator providing power for water heater, electrical appliances including hair dryer, and more importantly giving the service batteries a kick through the Adverk control system.

We have now reached the point of having to concede to old age and therefore must pass our lovely yacht on to another sailor.

MANUFACTURER HISTORY:
Johannes Olsson started the company 1939, building wooden yachts. Johannes’ sons, Bo and Orvar Olsson took over the business in 1963 and built their first GRP Malö Yachts in 1969. Lars and Bengt Olsson, sons of Bo assumed responsibility of Malö Yachts in 1984 and ran the company until 2008 when Bob Erixon bought the yard.
Malö Yachts is now part of Sweden Yachts Group, which also encompasses Sweden Yachts, CR Yachts and Regina of Vindö.
