There have been countless models of Sea-Doo in six decades of manufacturing PWCs, and many are still available on the used market. Today Sea-Doo has a huge catalog of new PWCs, as well as four pontoon boat models for sale.
Despite their racing reputation, Sea-Doo has always ensured they offer entry-level and affordable PWCs. Models such as the Spark—one of the cheapest new jet skis on the market—sells for just over $8,700 for a two-seater, and despite their 899cc 60-horsepower Rotax 900 ACE engine can reach speeds of 40mph thanks to the molded, ultra-lightweight hull.
One level up, the GTI range of recreational PWCs offers huge versatility and is as efficient at tow sports and cruising as they are at fishing.
Sea-Doo's race and performance range are the ultimate adrenaline-pumping machines, from the 230hp supercharged GTR to the three-passenger, 325hp RXT offshore beast.
With their new range of pontoon boats, Sea-Doo has entered a new era. The four 2024 models include the 13- to 19-foot Switch, the 13- to 21-foot Switch Sport (primed for tow sports), the 18- to 21-foot Switch Cruise (with a large swim platform and seating for nine), and the 21-foot Switch Cruise Limited, a premium model with added luxuries.
Sea-Doo is one of the pioneers in the personal watercraft world. Often referred to by the commonly used trade name Jet Ski, coined by competitor Kawasaki, the firm first began mass producing their water-jet-powered PWC, the Sea-Doo, in 1968. This first two-seater model was high performing thanks to its air-cooled 320cc Rotax engine, and it paved the way for almost 60 years of innovation.
Since then Sea-Doo, under parent company of Bombardier, have produced dozens of models and were instrumental in bringing new riders to the PWC world. To this day, they offer a broad range of PWCs that cater to new riders with affordable models, as well as experienced and professional riders who demand high performance.
Sea-Doo's accolades over the years are many, including their XP 785 winning the highest number of watercraft racing wins of all time due to its suspension seat, which improved cornering beginning in the 1990s. In 1997 the Sea-Doo XP was named Watercraft Of The Century by Watercraft World Magazine. Jump to the present, and a whole list of awards later, and the Sea-Doo Explorer Pro 170 received the Innovation Award at the 2023 Miami International Boat Show, while the Sea-Doo FishPro Trophy took home the same award at the 2022 Miami Show.
Building on the innovation and success of their PWCs, Sea-Doo ventured into the pontoon world in 2021 with huge success. Their range now includes four models, which each offer three modes—Sport, ECO, and Cruise. All have a tri-hull design, carry up to 230hp, and demonstrate excellent handling and cornering.
What are the best Sea-Doos?
The best Sea-Doo depends on what you want to use it for, and there are many models past and present from which to choose. There's the FishPro range of high spec fishing PWCs, the Wake range of tow jet skis, and the GTR, RXT, and RXP high-performance racers. For an excellent all-rounder opt for the three-seater GTX, an industry-leading touring PWC with incredible stability and speed.
Why are Sea-Doos popular?
The long popularity of the Sea-Doo stems from the brand's ability to make a model of personal watercraft (and now pontoon boat) to suit all riders. From affordable entry-level PWCs to high-performance racers, as well as activity-specific fishing and towing models, they have a huge inventory. Jazzy colors, lots of optional extras, and a good reputation for customer service add to their popularity.
